Human Flow

140 min.
Directed by Chinese contemporary artist Ai Weiwei, this documentary follows the global refugee crisis across a range of continents, countries, and cultures. These people have been migrating en masse for different reasons - poverty, displacement due to war, climate change, etc. and they often risk their lives to do so. However, the staggering number of migrants has led to emergency declarations throughout Europe and the United States, as well as deep political turmoil. Against the broader media narrative, Weiwei seeks to re-humanize these people, showing us how refugees from war-torn Syria still enjoy the simple pleasures of life, like sharing photos of cats online.
